City College art & design students donate product profits to Right Here

May 3, 2012

City College in Brighton hosted a sale of work inspired by the brand Biba, with the profits donated to Right Here. With a Biba exhibition set to open at Brighton museum in the following months, City College students studying Art & Design created a range of products inspired by the brand.

Deciding upon the company name, ‘Marka’, the students created designs for t-shirts, tote bags, badges, and A4/A5 prints. The designs are a cross between contemporary youth cultures and the traditional Biba designs.

Led by Art & Design teacher Jane Campling, the students created a range of designs, before using techniques such a screen-printing to create the final products.

On 3rd May, the students then spent the day selling the products they’d created. I went down for the morning to see the display and it was great to see how much work everyone had put in. By the time I left, the sale had only been going for about an hour and a half and the students had sold out of a number of their products already.

The profits will be donated towards Right Here, which will allow us to continue and develop our work with young people in Brighton and Hove.
